A Walk to Home and Heaven

I have just seen the Maalaala Mo Kaya Tsinelas episode played out by the late AJ Perez, along with child star Bugoy Drilon.

The story revolved around the inspiring journey of two young brothers, literally walking their way from the streets of Manila to their home in Catbalogan, Samar. The development of the story is very typical. What made it inspirational is that it really is physically and emotionally tiring to walk less than 500 miles, considering they're real young to do that. I couldn't even climb the MRT stairs without panting.

I also think that what made the episode more inspiring is that this is the last show of the late young actor AJ Perez, who figured in a highway accident last April 17. He could have done a lot more inspiring episodes, given that he's a good actor. (I didn't know he acts well, until I watched this episode.) I'm certain that his family and friends missed him even more after watching the TV show. He's in a better place now though - he walked the miles to heaven. May you rest in peace!

Rizal's birthday moved!

Funny how even birthdays now could be moved by the government. Well, honestly, being a corporate slave, I think Proclamation 154 gave us another day of rest.

MalacaƱan Palace has declared June 20, 2011 (Monday) a special non-working holiday in commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal's 150th birthday anniversary at the request of NHCP (National Historical Commission of the Philippines). The national hero was born on June 19, 1861. Since the said day falls on a Sunday, the Palace has decided to move it on to the following day.

The Palace wants to "give all Filipinos the opportunity to commemorate Rizal's patriotic deeds and sacrifices for the country, rekindle their admiration and respect for him, and to celebrate this milestone with appropriate ceremonies." But I'm quite certain that 80% of the Filipinos will either rest or go to the malls. The modern times have shelved the value of our history and culture.

And where will I be? Same as where all the 80% of modern Filipinos are. Maybe I'll pick up my battered copy of Noli Me Tangere, which I would eventually just sleep on, I assume. This is what commercialism and modernization have made us - insolent Pinoys.

The Royal Invite

The Royal Pinay Nanny
From Philippine Star
Araceli “Lillie” Piccio must have been elated to receive the royal invitation for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, set to mesmerize the world in April 29 (UK time). We don't even get a VIP pass to Bieber's concert (not that I know him or the promoter personally, thing is, it's expensive!) or even get a farmville neighbor invite. Point is, the Pinay nurse is lucky to get her golden ticket to the fairy-tale wedding everyone in this earth-kingdom is buzzing about these days.

"Miss Lillie", as the late Princess Di fondly calls her, is hailed from Bacolod and worked for eight years as Prince Harry's (William's brother) nanny. She must have been a good fairy-nanny. The prince, in his teenage years, told Miss Lillie when she left, “When I get married, I will take you back.” Sweet!

The most inspiring truth about this story is that the "nation of slaves" (as our country was once degradingly called) bore a loyal and caring nanny whom a world icon invites to his most important life-changing event. I don't think the prince would even care to remember her if she isn't an important figure to their royal household.

I think she will represent the whole Filipino nation in the royal wedding. That makes us sort of went to the ball also, and of course, makes us all proud!
